You interview with the recruiter, are told you're a great candidate, then you get ghosted.
Sound familiar?
Here's what might be happening:
Recruiter talks to you.
You sound good on the phone.
Recruiter forwards your resume and 10 other candidate resumes to the hiring manager.
You sound bad on paper.
Hiring manager decides to interview the other candidates.
Solution:
Write a follow-up email after your first round summarizing why you're a great fit for the role and ask the recruiter to forward it to the hiring manager.
Template:
Subject: Great meeting you!
Content:
“Name - really enjoyed speaking to your about XYZ role.
You're a great recruiter and walked me through everything I needed to know. [<-- Do this because the recruiter is more likely to forward your email if you make them sound good]
As mentioned, I think I'd be a great fit because:
1. [Bullet 1]
2. [Bullet 2]
3. [Bullet 3]
Can you forward this email to the hiring manager?”
